Among the many dieties of the Yoruba of Nigeria is the mischevious and profane "messenger" Eshu-Elegba. His image reflects his role in fertility, in that he is often depicted in sculpture with a phallic headpiece. His world involves women wishing children, divining the intent of the great dieties and a myriad of other roles.
